Penfold Family Fundraiser

_MG_2735 copy
The fashion pack have banded together for a cause – well-known makeup artist Ashlea Penfold and her family.

Byron based labels Spell & The Gypsy Collective, Fallen Broken Street, Goddess of Babylon, Amilita, Rowie, Thrills, Marho, Rhythm Girls, Afends, Accessories by Meeshka, Temple of the Sun, St Agni, Stitch & Hide and other fashion creatives have all come together for the Penfold family.

Ashlea’s husband Matt Penfold was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease recently and is undergoing chemotherapy, and their five-year-old son Cove has ongoing medical costs for Autism. With this in mind, a bunch of creatives have joined forces to have a night of firsts for a collective of Byron Bay fashion labels. They all have a connection to Ashlea and her family and want to assist the family in a terrible time.

It is a first event of this kind, a fundraiser featuring beautiful fashion from the region, and it is also a first for the venue! A barn at The Farm, Byron’s newest venue is being transformed especially for this event.

Mel Carrero moved to Lismore in 2006 and hasn't been able to let go of it ever since. Through the university culture experienced while studying at SCU she loved the culture of the town, but it wasn't until university finished she truly scratched beneath the surface when working at The Northern Rivers Echo. There she learned that if there is something you're looking for in a community whether it be support groups or niche clubs, this is the place to be. Mel is now the marketing manager for Lismore Shopping Square and in her spare time shoots, styles and writes for her blog The Chubby Fashionista, working with lots of local models over the past few years and having an exhibition of the shots in 2012. As writing, community and imagery are her main passions, Common Ground contributing is a way to get her fix!
