The Inaugural Bleach Festival

And so it begins, the inaugural Bleach* Surfing the Fringe 2012 festival.
Today marked the beginning of this event, a premier surf culture festival celebrating the artistic expression and creativity inspired by surf and beach lifestyle.
The event runs for the next two weeks until the 26th of February, and is primarily located in the Southern Gold Coast precinct, from Coolangatta in the south to Currumbin in the north.
Although the festival location may be in Southern Queensland, the Northern Rivers and Byron Shire are well and truly represented by artists from our community.
The festival kicked off with Bleach* Street, taking over Tomewin Street, Currumbin. It was a community atmosphere, with a little something for everyone. Surf World Museum – Surfing and Beach Culture - The History of Surfing - and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary were the cornerstone of proceedings today and I suppose when you think about it, fittingly so.

Art, music, film, fashion, theatre, food and photography sharing the common theme of beach culture will be on display across the iconic beaches.
A unique part of the festival is Pop Up Bleach*, a component of this concept is enabling surf-inspired creations to be displayed in the place that inspired them – the beach !! Art works are exhibited in shipping containers placed along the coast foreshores.

In addition, music performances (the mobile music truck) , kids activities, designer market and food stalls all added to the welcoming community feel of the day.

Now I do have to make special mention here of someone in particular, Vic Watson. If this festival is all about the chilled and relaxed beach lifestyle then I think Vic may have it somewhat down pat. You judge for yourself.

Vic Watson… putting in the hard yards… gold!
On that note I will leave you to enjoy the weekend. However consider taking the time out to go and have a look and support the talents that are on show at the Bleach* Surfing the Fringe festival. It runs for the next two weeks. Head to the Bleach website for a schedule of events.
