Big Wave Mercedes

Byron Bay local Narani Henson, who also runs the website Surf Sister, recently got to chat to Mercedes Maidana on her big wave antics… I remember back in the day when I was starting out my surfer journey. The main talking point with girlfriends on the beach was scrutinizing the size of the waves, discussing whether or not one could muster up the courage to paddle out. I have even had dreams of paddling into massive… Continue Reading…

A Surfing Utopia Lost & Found

We had been trying for days and I was starting to get frustrated but then everything aligned and we scored it big time.” Alex is participating Next month in Bleach* Festival,… Continue Reading…

Ozzie and the Black

There has been an Easterly jet-stream bringing us all this rainy and windy weather of late. The swell hit it’s peak yesterday with a few words of talented praise going to Mr Ozzie Wright (featured surfer) for his dynamic display, and how he lit up a very ordinary rainy day in the bay yesterday. Its one of the highlights of my surfing life to be constantly in the presence of some of the worlds most… Continue Reading…

Surfsister – Elaine Reid

When I was a kid in the early 70′s I was embarrassed that my mum was a surfer, when a lot of other mum’s stayed home and baked cookies and did what I thought was cool mum stuff, my mum and her best friend were out surfing straight after they finished the housework while we were at school. There were very few female surfers back then. It was not until I was much older did… Continue Reading…
